Harnessing the Potential of Fonts in Adobe Illustrator and Canva

Babes, get ready because these 2025’s typography trends are about to give you a skip-a-beat feeling on repeat.

As we look ahead to 2025, we’re seeing a seismic shift in how designers approach typography.

Gone are the days of playing it safe with conventional pairings and predictable layouts.

Instead, we’re entering an era where typography isn’t just about readability – it’s about making an unforgettable statement.

And let me tell you, as someone who lives and breathes font design, I’m absolutely excited about where we’re heading.

The trends I’m seeing emerge are bold, unexpected, and completely transformative.

They’re pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible in design, and they’re giving brands new ways to stand out in an increasingly crowded digital space.

What excites me most about these emerging trends is how they’re challenging the traditional rules of typography.

We’re seeing designers break free from the constraints of “what’s always been done” to create combinations that shouldn’t work on paper but are absolutely magical in practice. It’s like watching a perfectly choreographed dance that’s  unexpected, but somehow exactly right.

In this post, I’m pulling back the curtain on the typography trends that are about to take over the design world in 2025. From sky-high sans serifs that command attention to ultra-thin modernist statements, I’m covering everything you need to know to stay ahead of the curve.

Plus, I might just drop a few hints about some exciting new releases coming to the Blanc Salváge family (spoiler alert: one of your favorites is getting a major glow-up!).

Let’s explore these trends that are about to revolutionize how we think about font design and usage.

Sky-High Sans Serifs: Making Bold Statements

Let’s talk about the trend that’s literally reaching new heights.

Font design in 2025 is taking a dramatic turn toward dramatic, ultra-condensed sans serifs that demand attention the moment they hit the page.

These aren’t your typical sans serifs babes,  they’re statement pieces that combine towering heights with surprisingly elegant proportions.

The new wave of sans serifs is all about pushing vertical boundaries while maintaining that perfect balance of boldness and sophistication.

Think of them as the stilettos of the typography world – they elevate everything they touch.

What makes these fonts so special?

It’s all in the details.

The dramatic contrast between their height and width creates an instant focal point in any design.

When you pair this with their clean, modern lines, you get a font that’s perfect for:

  • High-end fashion brands looking to make a statement
  • Editorial headlines that stop the scroll
  • Luxury product packaging that commands shelf presence
  • Modern wedding stationery that breaks from tradition
  • Brand identifiers that aren’t afraid to stand out

And here’s a little insider secret I’ve been dying to share: our beloved Avava is getting a bold new upgrade that embodies everything about this trend!!

I’ve been working on expanding her personality to include even more dramatic heights and thoughtful details that make her perfect for 2025’s design landscape. (Keep your eyes on the February releases – trust me, you won’t want to miss this one!)

But here’s the key to working with these statement-making fonts: it’s all about balance.

While these sky-high sans serifs are stunning on their own, they truly shine when you know how to use them strategically.

Try pairing them with more subdued typefaces for body copy, or use them sparingly as powerful accent pieces in your designs.

My favorite way to implement these bold beauties? Create a hierarchy where your sky-high sans serif takes center stage in headlines or key phrases, while a complementary font family handles the heavy lifting of your body text.

It’s like styling an outfit – your statement piece needs breathing room to make its impact.

For those of you already working with Urena in your designs, you’re ahead of the curve.

Her ultra-black weight perfectly captures this trend’s essence, and I’ve been loving seeing how you’ve been using her to create those bold, unforgettable moments in your work. (And yes, those Instagram tags absolutely make my day – keep them coming!!)

Breaking Traditional Pairing Rules: The Magic of Unexpected Combinations

Modern typography is redefining what’s possible with font combinations in 2025.

This trend is here to shake things up, and I’m living for this rebellion.

We’re entering an era where the old rules of font pairing are being rewritten by designers who dare to experiment – and the results are absolutely stunning.

Here’s what I’m seeing (and absolutely loving) in the design world: combinations that shouldn’t work on paper but create pure magic on screen and in print.

Take Coastal Grey and Eleven Eleven, for example. One’s an elegant serif with personality for days, while the other brings that modern geometric edge – and together? They’re absolutely unstoppable

It’s no wonder they’re climbing the charts as one of our most-loved combinations.

But let’s talk about how you can master this trend in your own work.

The secret isn’t just throwing any two fonts together and hoping for the best (though I do love a good design experiment!).

We need to understand the personality of each typeface and creating intentional tension that captures attention.

Here’s what’s working:

  • Pairing fonts with dramatically different personalities but similar x-heights
  • Creating contrast through weight rather than just style (The One’s romantic weight with Urena’s bold personality is a perfect example)
  • Using unexpected combinations for different elements (think: elegant serif headlines with ultra-modern sans serif subheadings)
  • Mixing traditional and contemporary interpretations of similar styles

Want to know the best part about this trend? It’s giving us designers permission to trust out instincts more than ever before.

That gut feeling you get when two fonts just click together, even if they break all the traditional rules?

That’s your design intuition speaking, and 2025 is all about letting it lead the way.

I’ve been experimenting with this myself lately, and I have to tell you – watching The One’s most delicate weight play with Urena’s boldest expressions has been a game-changer in my own work. It’s that perfect balance of refined and rebellious that feels so right for where design is heading.

Pro tip:

Start your experimentation with fonts from the same designer or foundry (hey there, Blanc Salváge fam!).

Even when the styles are dramatically different, there’s often an underlying harmony in how they’re crafted that makes them naturally compatible while still creating that desired tension.

  • The One + Urena for high-end fashion brands
  • After Five + Mon Amie for luxury hospitality

Ultra-Thin Takes Center Stage: The Return of Minimal Mastery

If 2024 was all about making bold statements, 2025 is proving that sometimes the quietest voice in the room commands the most attention.

Ultra-thin modern sans serifs are having more than just a moment… they’re truly ushering in a new era of sophisticated minimalism that’s absolutely captivating.

And babes, can I let you in on a little secret I’ve been absolutely bursting to share?… Our beloved Eleven Eleven is getting an upgrade that’s going to put it right at the heart of this trend.

I’ve been working behind the scenes to expand the family with some seriously stunning ultra-thin weights that perfectly capture this movement toward elegant minimalism. (I know, I know – I’m terrible at keeping secrets when I’m this excited!)

What makes this trend so powerful is its versatility.

These thin letterforms bring an undeniable air of luxury to any design, but they’re not just pretty faces. When used thoughtfully, they can:

  • Create stunning negative space that draws the eye
  • Add sophistication to minimal layouts without overwhelming them
  • Bring balance to designs that feature bolder elements
  • Offer a fresh take on traditional typography hierarchies
  • Deliver that understated confidence that luxury brands crave

But here’s the thing about working with ultra-thin fonts that I’ve learned through countless hours of design and development: it’s all about understanding their sweet spots

While they’re absolutely gorgeous, they need the right stage to perform their best.

For web design, I’m seeing these delicate beauties shine brightest in:

  • Large-scale headlines where they have room to breathe
  • High-contrast situations that let their subtle details sing
  • Navigation elements that need to feel elevated but not overwhelming
  • Footer designs that maintain sophistication without competing for attention

And for print? The possibilities are endless, but my absolute favorite applications are in:

  • Editorial layouts where they create sophisticated typographic hierarchies
  • High-end business cards and stationery that whisper luxury
  • Modern wedding invitations that redefine elegance
  • Brand collateral that needs to feel exclusive and elevated

The key to mastering this trend is understanding that these ultra-thin weights are your mood makers.

They bring an immediate sense of intentionality and refinement to any design they touch.

It’s like adding that perfect piece of delicate jewelry to an outfit – it might not be the boldest element, but it’s often the detail that pulls everything together.

But yes, it can turn into the BOLD element you need to tie it together. It’s all in the balance!

The Return of Personal Touch: Embracing Perfect Imperfection

You know that feeling when you see a handwritten note from someone you love?

There’s something about those tiny imperfections that make it feel so much more special than any printed message could ever be.

That’s exactly the energy we’re bringing into design for 2025 – and I’m absolutely here for it.

We’re seeing a beautiful shift away from perfectly symmetrical designs toward something that feels more alive, more human.

It’s like we’re all collectively realizing that the little “imperfections” in design aren’t flaws at all, they’re the very things that make our work feel authentic and connected.

This movement is showing up everywhere, but especially in:

  • Off-screen lettering that brings a touch of artistic flair
  • Playful, hand-drawn elements that add personality to designs
  • Organic shapes and flows that break free from rigid grids
  • Typography that feels like it was crafted by hand rather than algorithm

And here’s what I love most about this trend: it’s giving designers permission to breathe again.

We’re embracing the beauty of natural flow and movement in our typography choices.

Think about it like this: when you’re having coffee with a friend, you don’t sit perfectly straight or speak in perfectly measured sentences. You lean in, you gesture, you let your personality shine through…

That’s what this trend is bringing to typography!  That same sense of natural, comfortable authenticity.

For those of you who’ve been following my journey, you know this trend holds a special place in my heart.

Every font I create carries a piece of my story, whether it’s La Roue’s connection to my great-grandmother or Coastal Grey’s tribute to my son.

This movement toward more personal, authentic design feels like the industry is finally catching up to what we’ve known all along: that the best designs are the ones that carry a piece of our hearts.

But let’s talk about how to actually implement this trend without losing that professional edge we all need to maintain.

The key is finding the sweet spot between organic flow and intentional design. Here’s what’s working:

  • Mixing structured fonts with more organic elements for balance
  • Using asymmetrical layouts that still maintain visual harmony
  • Incorporating hand-drawn elements strategically rather than overwhelming the design
  • Letting typography break free from traditional constraints while maintaining readability

Embracing organic design doesn’t mean throwing all structure out the window.

It’s about finding that perfect balance between professional polish and personal touch. Kind of like knowing exactly when to add that perfectly imperfect flourish to your signature.
